UFC 248 is an upcoming mixed martial arts event produced. By the Ultimate Fighting Championship is planned to take place on March 7, 2020, at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, United States. The current main event features the first UFC Chinese champion, Weili Zhang who will face Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a strawweight bout.
A clash between two heavy-handed featherweights is in the works for UFC 248 as Jeremy Stephens is expected to face Calvin Kattar on March 7 in Las Vegas. Multiple sources close to the fight confirmed verbal agreements are in place for the matchup when speaking MMA Fighting following an initial report from MMAJunkie. Top featherweights Calvin Kattar and Jeremy Stephens will look to get back on track in March when they meet at UFC 248. MMA Junkie today confirmed with multiple people close to the situation that both Kattar (20-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and Stephens (28-17 MMA, 15-16 UFC) have verbally agreed to the matchup, but bout agreements have not been finalized. The people requested anonymity because the promotion has yet to officially announce the fight.
Stephens will look to get back on track following a 0-3 run with one no contest in his past four fights. While his recent streak hasn’t reflected any wins, Stephens has gone to battle with former champion Jose Aldo, top prospect Zabit Magomedsharipov and fellow top 10 ranked featherweight Yair Rodriguez in consecutive fights. Stephens most recently engaged in a ‘Fight of the Night’ with Rodriguez this past October and now he’ll face another hard-hitting featherweight in Kattar in March.
Kattar will also attempt to get back in the win column when he faces Stephens at UFC 248. The Massachusetts native is coming off a loss of his own to Magomedsharipov from November 2019 while putting together a 2-2 mark over his past four fights. Stephens vs. Kattar is the latest addition to a growing UFC 248 card, which also features a strawweight title fight between reigning champion Weili Zhang and former 115-pound queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
The preliminary card also includes a selection of interesting matchups. Beneil Dariush will finally face Drakkar Klose in a lightweight bout since their fight in July 2019 was scrapped. Sugar Sean O’Malley is also expected to make his long-awaited return against Jose Alberto Quiñones at UFC 248. Also rumored for the card is a middleweight title fight featuring Israel Adesanya taking on Yoel Romero. The bout is not official yet, but Dana White has assured fight fans that it is being worked on. You can watch UFC 248 Live On Official Channel.
UFC 248 takes place March 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims likely to air on ESPN and ESPN+/UFC Fight Pass. Kattar, No. 11 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie MMA featherweight rankings, is coming off a narrow loss in his first UFC headliner. He suffered a decision defeat to Zabit Magomedsharipov at UFC on ESPN+ 21 November. Prior to that fight Kattar, 31, had won 12 of 13 contests.
Stephens, 33, will also be hungry for victory at UFC 248, because he will enter the event on a four-fight winless skid. “Lil’ Heathen” hasn’t won since a knockout of Josh Emmett at UFC on FOX 28 in February 2018, dropping fights to Yair Rodriguez, Magomedsharipov and Jose Aldo since.
